Palestine has recently suffered from reduced internet access due to the Israel-Hamas Conflict.

Effective immediately, in solidarity with those affected, and in pursuit of an open and free internet for all - a Windscribe relief code has been released.

In war, truth is the first casualty - Aeschylus 525BC

It is our sole goal to ensure that communication between loved ones can be maintained and that vital services can remain online. We are not going to deliberate on stances or comment on political standings.

We have been alerted to the presence of increased censorship and disinformation campaigns as a direct result of this conflict. During the escalation of military retaliation, we have noticed a massive increase in DDoS attacks and outages across the region.

Google, Cloudflare, and AWS have reported that they have suffered the largest DDoS attacks on record due to the HTTP/2 zero-day exploit. Israel themselves have blocked internet access to Gaza - with the Gaza Strip seeing less than half their usual connectivity at this moment. The destruction of the network infrastructure of Gaza means existing providers have large gaps in their networks.

As a measure to improve communication and to allow citizens to gather accurate information about the Israel-Hamas War, we are releasing a relief code to increase the data quota of free Windscribe users within Lebanon.

Please ensure you use the correct relief code for your region to ensure your best possible service. We have also released a relief code for the following locations.

  • Israel - ISRA2023
  • State of Palestine - PALE2023
  • Syria - SYRI2023
  • Lebanon - LEBA2023
  • Iran - IRAN2023

Important Features

Anti-Censorship Feature - Circumvent Censorship

Screenshot of Windscribe Anti-Censorship features, including Circumvent Censorship
The circumvent censorship toggle will allow you to bypass the Great Firewall of China, Russian censorship filters, and Palestinian internet blocks.

Windscribe is now the leading solution in the VPN space for beating censorship and authoritative filters.

We’ve recently seen great success in circumventing censorship in many of the toughest regions in the world. This is thanks to intense cat-and-mouse antics with various dictatorships leading, to us improving our methodology tenfold.

You can find the “Circumvent Censorship” toggle in preferences in the connection settings.

Anti-Traffic Correlation Attack Protection - Decoy Mode

Screenshot of Windscribe's Anti-Censorship features, including Decoy Traffic Mode
Decoy Traffic prevents triangulation of specific data usage patterns. It uses a lot of data but will help mask your activity even further.

Traffic Correlation Attacks allow those who own the networks you use to triangulate who and where an individual is even when using a VPN - based on usage patterns. You can use Decoy Mode when on the move using an Android device to mask your activity.

You can find the “Decoy Traffic” toggle in preferences in the connection settings.

What are Relief Codes?

Windscribe, as you might guess by now, is committed to promoting freedom of information and expression worldwide.

We recognize that, in many regions, governmental censorship and restrictions limit public access to essential online resources, infringing on citizens' rights to freely access and distribute information. Therefore, we are releasing a "Relief code" to give these individuals an opportunity to bypass such censorship.

We believe that everyone deserves unfiltered access to the internet, enabling them to make informed decisions, stay connected with loved ones, openly express their views, and access accurate and timely news about local events, issues, and safety measures.

This Relief Code is our way of supporting the global community in circumventing ever-increasing internet restrictions and surveillance. To allow Palestine to stay connected with the rest of the free world.

Can I Use This Code From Outside That Region?

Our relief codes are designed to help people in war-torn and oppressive areas, where private and secure access to information and communication channels is under genuine and immediate threat. Some people, however, see fit to abuse these codes despite not being from the affected region or involved in the conflict and seek to make a quick buck by reselling accounts.

If you aren't the target demographic for any of these codes, we ask that you don't use them for your own gain. If you are thinking about abusing them for your own gain, we ask that you take a good long look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a stern talking to. If you still want to abuse them after this, then enjoy being a war profiteer, we guess?

How Are Locations Selected?

Windscribe has access to a comprehensive suite of tools for appraising connectivity across our network and globally. Using this tool, and some handy ones listed by our technical team, we can monitor the global state of connectivity.

We can roll out a Relief Code relatively quickly - but if you feel that your region has been neglected, you can raise this on our Twitter.
